the 5th season…

I recently read an article where this time of year was referred to as the “5th season”, a term that I liked a lot.  The article was about plants – mostly ground covers, flowers, shrubs, grasses – that are for the most part finished showing off the beauty that we know them for at the height of gardening season, and are now in their downward spiral to dormancy. The 5th season is when plants brazenly strut their last gasps of colours, textures and fragrance.

Encouraged by that article I put on my work gear and headed outdoors to see what I could see…and this is what I found…happy 5th season!
